TECHNICAL PREVIEW · IN ACTIVE DEVELOPMENT

USE CASES

What an operator would be able to do.

E31 Network is being built so a fleet can act on site, a facility can hold its own picture, and a person can govern both — without the operational record leaving. These are the jobs that shape that design. They are not installations, and they are not claims that the work has been done.

DESIGN TARGETS · NOTHING ON THIS PAGE IS A DELIVERED DEPLOYMENT

Each case is read the same way. The situation is the constraint. The job is what the people on site need. The design is where that work is being placed — on the machine, in the facility, and across sites — and the last part is what those people would get if the system is built as intended. The environments behind these jobs are described separately.

MANUFACTURING

A line that keeps its pace when the link does not.

THE SITUATION

A cell, the mobile robot that feeds it, and a person on the same floor. The takt does not flex because a wide-area link had a bad minute. The process on that floor — the video of it, the yield, the method — is the thing the company does not want living in anyone else's building.

THE JOB

Keep the handoff, the grasp, and the next cycle local. Let a supervisor see the line as one picture. Let the plant get better at its own work overnight, using the day it just had, without exporting that day to do it.

BEING DESIGNED SO THAT

  • On the machine: perception and the next motion, so a stall in the uplink is not a stall in the cell. The path that can move hardware is being kept separate from anything learned that day.
  • In the building: a facility plane on the floor for the shared picture of the line, coordination between the arm and the robot feeding it, and adaptation on the plant's own record after the shift.
  • Across sites: an approved update can be carried in and checked before it changes how a machine moves. The process record is not what travels.

WHAT THAT IS FOR

A line whose pace is set by the work, not by someone else's network. A process that can be inspected inside the plant. A model change that is a decision with a signature, not a background download.

PORTS & YARDS

A yard that can see itself without streaming itself.

THE SITUATION

Cranes, yard machines, and inspection spread across acres of steel. Radio coverage is a canyon, not a blanket. Cargo imagery and manifests carry obligations to the parties who own the freight, and to customs. A machine that needs a live uplink in order to think will stop thinking behind the next stack.

THE JOB

Let a machine finish the move it already understands when coverage drops. Hold one current picture of the yard for the people running it. Keep container imagery and the terminal's own record inside the terminal.

BEING DESIGNED SO THAT

  • On the machine: enough autonomy to continue through a coverage gap, instead of waiting on a path that the yard itself blocks.
  • In the building: a yard-side facility plane that holds the shared picture and the heavier perception, on the terminal's side of the boundary.
  • Across sites: governance of which software a machine may run, without turning the day's cargo imagery into traffic between sites.

WHAT THAT IS FOR

Moves that do not pause because a container blocked a radio. One picture of the yard for the people who run it. Customer and customs material that stays where the obligation says it stays.

WAREHOUSE & FULFILLMENT

A fleet that learns the building it is actually in.

THE SITUATION

Dense mobile robots, high-rate picking, and a layout that changes with the season. Coordinating that fleet through a remote service puts a round trip on every decision and makes a distant outage into a site outage. Order data is commercially sensitive, and the building's network budget is already spoken for.

THE JOB

Coordinate the fleet from inside the building. Keep each robot able to finish a safe motion on its own. Let the shared picture of aisles, slots, and traffic update as the building changes — on the operator's data, not on a model hosted elsewhere.

BEING DESIGNED SO THAT

  • On the machine: local autonomy for the motion that cannot wait, so a robot is not remote-controlled with extra steps.
  • In the building: coordination and the shared world model onsite, plus overnight adaptation that tracks the layout the fleet actually saw.
  • Across sites: the same approved software can be shown on every building, while each building's order record stays in that building.

WHAT THAT IS FOR

A fleet whose coordination does not leave the site. A picture of the warehouse that can change when the warehouse changes. Order data that is used where it already lives.

DISCONNECTED & EXPEDITIONARY

A site that does not call home in order to think.

THE SITUATION

Forward sites and disconnected operations, where autonomous systems exist because people should not have to be there for every cycle. An emitting uplink can be a vulnerability. Classification confines the record. Power, cooling, and logistics are scarce, and a dependency on reachback is a dependency the site may not be allowed to have.

THE JOB

Run the work with no path out. Bring an update as a thing you carry, on the unit's schedule. Be able to show — without a connection — that a machine is running exactly what was approved.

BEING DESIGNED SO THAT

  • On the machine: the perception and action the mission needs, with no runtime need for an outside network.
  • In the site: a facility plane that can be sealed with the site, holding coordination and the local record.
  • Across the boundary: signed bundles only, checked before they apply, and attestation that answers 'what is this machine running?' without phoning anywhere.

WHAT THAT IS FOR

Operation when there is no link, by design rather than as a degraded mode. Updates that do not require opening a path. A proof of integrity a person on site can demand.

ENERGY & UTILITIES

Inspection that gets better without exporting the plant.

THE SITUATION

Inspection and maintenance across generation sites, substations, and long infrastructure. The sites are remote, the backhaul is thin, and the operational record is handled as critical infrastructure. Streaming plant imagery to shared infrastructure is both impractical and, in many regimes, not allowed.

THE JOB

Put the inspection intelligence at the site. Let it improve on the operator's own history of that plant. Leave an audit a regulator can read without the imagery having toured someone else's datacenter to produce it.

BEING DESIGNED SO THAT

  • On the machine: the inspection platform — ground or aerial — carries the perception it needs for the route, including where the link is thin.
  • At the site: a facility plane that holds the plant's own record and the heavier reading of it, inside the operator's boundary.
  • Across the estate: approved software and a record of what ran, not a copy of every frame, moving between sites.

WHAT THAT IS FOR

An inspection that does not depend on a rural uplink to be finished. A plant record that stays a plant record. A trail of what the system did that can be shown without handing over the raw site.

HOSPITALS & REGULATED BUILDINGS

A camera that finishes its work on the floor.

THE SITUATION

Logistics and service robots moving through corridors where almost everything a camera sees is protected. The machines share space with the public. Audits are ordinary. A continuous video stream becomes a compliance event the moment it leaves the building, and a processing agreement does not scale to a fleet that never stops looking.

THE JOB

Perceive, navigate, and hand off inside the facility. Show a compliance office a system with a defined workload and a sealed image, not an open pipe. Prove, when asked, that the machine moving near people is running what was approved.

BEING DESIGNED SO THAT

  • On the machine: the perception required to move safely among people, completed on the robot rather than deferred to a remote service.
  • In the building: fleet coordination and any review of what the robots saw, inside the same boundary as the patients and the staff.
  • Out of the building: nothing from the cameras. What can leave is governance — which image is approved — not the scene the image was looking at.

WHAT THAT IS FOR

Robots that can work a floor without creating an export of that floor. A workload narrow enough to explain. Integrity that can be shown when an audit asks what the machine was running.
